Good girls (and boys) don’t …

I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world.

I may not complete this last one but I give myself to it.

I circle around God, around the primordial tower.

I’ve been circling for thousands of years
and I still don’t know: am I a falcon,
a storm, or a great song?

“WIDENING CIRCLES” BY RAINER MARIA RILKE

Are you holding your head up high, leading your life and biz in the direction of your dreams?

Or are you stuck in the mud and muck of day-to-day details, working your arse off to complete an endless litany of tasks that do not actually matter?

The Sovereign isn’t just a leader, but the one who holds the vision for where you want to go. This vision stretches, ever-widening as the poem above suggests.

This vision is the seed of your legacy.

The Sovereign is at the center of everything you do, regulating the roles you plan in your life and business. And just as the Queen and King protect their land and people, it is the job of the Sovereign to safeguard your vision and ensure that each task you take on moves the needle closer to that goal.

Each of us is endowed with the gift of Sovereignty. It is our birthright! But we carelessly deny it and far too often allow others to define our priorities.

When we refuse the power of self-rulership to please others, we hand the reigns of our businesses and lives over to the people we believe have authority over us (experts, parents, teachers, and bosses). We lose our way, and that vision begins to fade.

Sure, we may need to submit on occasion to survive, but that is not the way to thrive.

Yes, it is daunting to be the one at the wheel, having full responsibility for our successes and failures. We’re also afraid to be seen as ‘selfish’ or ‘ungrateful’ for not putting the needs of others before ourselves.

These fears cause you to play small, hide your light from the world, and compromise on your dreams. They help you rationalize not achieving your vision.

A Sovereign is a visionary and has a tendency to be categorized by others as something other than ‘nice.’ They do not play small or give their power away. They do not sacrifice their well being to take care of the needs of others.

They carefully choose which rules to follow and which ones to ignore. They do not compromise, especially on their vision. They speak the truth, speak up when something isn’t right, and fight back.

They don’t try to be nice and know how to say ‘no’ more often than they say ‘yes.’

Most importantly, they declare boundaries and protect them faithfully.

They aren’t the good girls and boys that listen to so-called authority figures. They are the rebels that disrupt the system and bring the walls down.

Sovereignty and vision were the topics in my Higher Ground Facebook group live readings and rituals throughout the month of January.

We discussed our favorite visionaries: artists, musicians, philosophers, writers, poets, and celebrities.

We talked about what we love most about these folks, including the qualities that seem to rub other people the wrong way.

Stop trying to be the good girl or boy and LIVE your BIG vision.
