Ok, here’s my rant for the day. It’s 1:43am. A very early rant. And the beginning of a fresh new series on my blog.
All these marketing gurus that we love pretty much talk about the same thing: be yourself and radiate and the world will love you and give you big sums of money. It’s about your mojo. And, yes, you’d better be damn good at what you do, your art.
Danielle LaPorte, Marie Forleo, Hiro Boga, Alexandra Franzen, Tara Gentile and Leonie Dawson (formerly Goddess Leonie who recently pulled a “Danielle LaPorte” and became her name brand) are my favorites. And, I watch and learn from them. Closely. (I think you can see who my main influence is already.)
I’m following the not-so-secret-juicy-sauce.
I come up with my mighty fine unique points too, my mojo – My brand is my story. Create a psyche map to explore your uncharted regions. Your gift must be shared. Muse your way to business bliss.
If these brilliant and wealthy women can do it, then so can I. And, I can teach others how to apply some of these principles.
After going to lots of different blog sites, many recommended by colleagues and the mighty 6 that I mentioned above, I find that my uniquity (as Michelle Ward calls it) doesn’t seem all that unique anymore. Hey Shenee has a similar branding approach – with story. So many people use the Muse as a metaphor for the inspiration behind your business. So, should I not use this even though it feels like a part of me? Hell, I can Muse with the best of ‘em.
I know all of you fantastic coaches are going to say, “Stop comparing yourself to others.”
How can I not? I know I’m unique and special and great, but after awhile you feel like Mugatu in Zoolander. Everyone’s marketing the same way. Their version of Blue Steel. But, Blue Steel is Blue Steel no matter how you package it.
I know. I’m acting like a cranky pants beee-atch.
Yep, it’s all about packaging.
How do you like this wrapper?
And, in closing, I hope you enjoyed this first edition of my new blog series “Mental Masturbation.” I want to find other like-minded marketers out there to contribute pieces to this collection. Send me email, let me know. I’ll be imploring most of you to guest blog really soon anyways.
Don’t make me beg. Ok, I’m begging. Give us some clarity, hilarity and honesty. We don’t need more secret sauce, we need a good laugh.
Please leave comments below and don’t hold back. Tell me how you really feel about it. Marketing. Mental masturbation.
