Is “sexy” a bad word?

Sexy means lots of different things to different people. I’ve recently learned that I need to choose my words with conviction.

And, no, I don’t mean choose them carefully. Rather, choose each word with complete commitment to holding all of its meanings.

I named one of my workshops, “Radiate Your Sexy Inner Business Goddess” This title ruffled a few feathers and I was asked to switch the word “sexy” with “passionate.” I didn’t hesitate. I changed it because it still worked and I wasn’t asked to change any other part of the copy that included the word “sexy.”

[To be honest, someone also took offense at my using the word “Goddess” in the title as well. This surprised me. She proclaimed I was less devoted to Goddess because I dared use Her in a commercial way. This may someday show up as a blog-vent, but this post is all about sexy.]

The question: “Should I have even used that word in the first place?” In my heart of hearts. YES. I used the word because it sounded the way I wanted to feel when I was facilitating the retreat. And, I wanted the women in attendance to feel this way too.

When I use the word “sex” or “sexy” in the headline of a post on Facebook or in an email headline people immediately react. Response levels go up, clickthroughs increase, engagement level rises. Sexy things happen, and, personally I feel sexy when I get good response to a project.

[This workshop, by the way, filled up in the first 48 hours after its announcement. I think the registrants wanted to feel sexy too.]

My associations with sexy:
Sexy = Strong, Healthy Body. Sacred. Mystical. Magical. Sassy. Magnetic. Fun. Carefree. Assertive. Sensual.
