Where are you on your journey?

The key to making your dreams come true–you know get the book deal for $250,000 with Random House or booking yourself out months in advance–is ENDURANCE.

If you’re feeling like you are getting tired in the middle of your journey do not give up. Beginnings are always exciting, but first sign of difficulty so many will turn away and think this is not the right path because it’s too hard.

“The closer he got to the realization of his dream, the more difficult things became … beginner’s luck was no longer functioning.” (Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist, p. 89)

The Alchemist portrays a journey that feels realistic to me. In particular, the idea of beginner’s luck that pops up throughout.

Santiago’s experiences with his dream journey felt similar to my own.

For example:

  1. The beginning of a journey is fairly easy. We feel lucky and energized that we found our purpose in life. Your excitement and enthusiasm are naturally high at this time. And what attracts clients like bees to honey? Excitement, high energy and enthusiasm, of course!
  2. During the middle of a journey we are tested to see if we can be tempted to veer off the path to our “Personal Legends.” We fall on our butts many times, but stand back up and brush off the dirt. We keep on moving forward as if something is pulling us along.
  3. The end of the journey is near when we are ready to completely give up. Extra courage and stamina are needed because at this stage there is usually one major test to see if we indeed have the fortitude to stay the path. For Santiago, this is when he gets to the pyramids and is nearly beaten to death by the man who unknowingly tells him exactly where to find his treasure!

In your own business, think of where you are now. Which stage of the journey are you on? And I also believe that we cycle through the three stages multiple times in the evolution of one business.

Spend 15 minutes writing about the stage you’re currently in with your business.

Brainstorm! What’s going on, who’s in the scene with you, where you are at, what kind of decisions you’re making and the overall feelings you’re experiencing?

“You shall be free indeed when your days are not without a care nor your nights without a want and a grief, but rather when these things girdle your life and yet you rise above them naked and unbound.” –Kahlil Gibran

With love,

Kris
