Being a weapon of mass seduction, cacao is the Queen of Aphrodisiacs.
Known by the name Ixcacao (pronounced “she-cah-cow”), the personification of the fruit of the cacao tree is a Mayan goddess that was invoked alongside other agricultural deities for a bountiful harvest.
The main chemical component of cacao is theobromine, which comes from the Greek roots theo (“god”) and broma (“food”), meaning “food of the gods.”
Cacao is the ultimate heart opener, both figuratively and literally: for one, it dilates your arteries and blood vessels which improves blood flow. The maca powder in the recipe is a libido booster for both men and women.
Before making the cacao truffles, prepare your space. Have red or pink candles and fresh flowers near the stove to create a romantic atmosphere. I like to also have music to match whatever love spell I’m infusing the chocolate with. Sometimes I’ll play chants to the Hindu goddess Lalita on YouTube as I’m making the truffles. Or play “Clair de Lune” by Debussy. Something dreamy that invokes feelings of love and relaxation.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup of organic cacao butter
3/4 cup of organic cacao powder
2 Tablespoons of organic coconut oil
2 Teaspoons of vanilla paste
1 Teaspoon Maca powder
Pinch of sea or himalayan salt to taste
Pinch of cinnamon
Pinch of cayenne pepper … or more if love more HEAT
Sweeten to taste with raw, organic honey or maple syrup.
For low glycemic options, I love using a combination of stevia and monk fruit syrup or powder.
Organic dried Rose Petals
Organic Cacao Nibs
You’ll also need 3-4 candy molds or 3 small ice cube trays.
First melt the cacao butter and coconut oil in a pan over a low flame. You never want to overheat the cacao; heat will ruin the benefits of the theobromine in the cacao.
Once the butter and coconut oil are completely liquefied, add the cacao powder and maca and combine ingredients until smooth. This will be fast, so have your forms ready to go!
The last things to go into the pan are the vanilla, salt, cinnamon and cayenne.
Mix well in clockwise direction and whisper words of love as you do this. Can’t think of what to say? Try reading your favorite Rumi poem into it.
Now pour the liquid cacao mixture into the molds and sprinkle the rose petals and cacao nibs over each one.
