There are so many factors in life that cause you to dim your light and essentially dim your desires.

What’s happening when you do that?

You are domesticating yourself. Making sure you’re not too much. Because when you’re “too much” of anything you rock the boat of mediocrity. And mediocrity hates that!

Aphrodite, Greek goddess of beauty, love, s*x and money was forcefully wed to the god Hephaestus by the chief of the gods, Zeus. Even though Hesiod, author of Theogony, placed Aphrodite as a primal goddess (daughter of Uranus) created long before the Olympians, she is diminished as an underling to Zeus in later patriarchal mythologies.

And we’ve all heard the stories about how Aphrodite cheats on Hephaestus with Aries/Mars, the god of war … and with the beautiful youthful Adonis … and with countless other mortal men!

⚡ Zeus’ failed attempts to domesticate her is a direct reflection of the patriarchal fear of desire and pleasure.

When we diminish ourselves to placate others, our real desires don’t vanish! They fester in the shadows and transform into addictions and self-sabotaging behaviors. Aphrodite becomes angry, bitter and vengeful. She is not one to be trifled with. She must have the freedom to pursue her pleasures; she embodies pure erotic sovereignty.

🌹 Aphrodite does not entertain mediocrity and neither should YOU.

We are born to be felt, seen and heard as our most primal and unbound selves. This inspires greatness in others … and also triggers the ones that know they WANT to be untamed and open-heartedly wild, but are too afraid to shift. These are the people you’re dimming down for out of fear of criticism, ridicule, rejection and abandonment. It’s not worth a life of
mediocrity–which ultimately means “averageness.”

That sounds about as exciting as a boiled potato.
